It’s a shame we messed up the semi-final against Frankfurt.

We would have won that final

Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
So could someone explain how Cardiff,Swansea etc from Wales get to play in the English Premiership/ league, as there is a Welsh FA, but the Scott’s do not,in fact Berwick, that’s in England are in the Scottish league.

Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
It's easy to say things about Rangers but in the PL they would get up to an extra £170m TV revenue that would make them quite a formidable club.

At the moment they don't pay PL wages nor do they attract top players. I guess they are probably on a par with the better Championship teams but a few years with a PL income they'd be massive too...

Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
No Way. What have they won in Europe? One Cup Winners Cup isn't it?

I'd put them on a par with us. A well supported club that would be mid-level in the Premier League (at best).

Tin pot outfit. Wouldn't last 10 mins in the prem.

Jock football is shit.

Eerie Descent 1:47 Fri Dec 15
Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
Why do people think it's a given that if they were in the Prem, they'd instantly be monster clubs?

Most of it these days comes down to owners and how a club is run. Sheffield Wednesday were always a big club, same as Leeds, they've just had shit owners and been run terribly, hence both clubs have been down in the depths. As were Man City, who are now just about the best club a player could join if they want silverware.

When all's said and done, you could make all sorts of arguments as to why, but the fact is, no real top talent is joining is choosing to join Celtic or Rangers, just as an example, neither club would have had a hope of signing Paqueta, or Alvarez, or even JWP. The reasons for that are neither here nor there, that's just facts.

Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
Let’s be blunt: they’re not a bigger club than us by any modern measurement. But that’s almost entirely down to the Premier League and the way its enormous spending power distorts almost all of global football.

Think about how both clubs (West Ham and Rangers) were in he 80s - before the Prem made everybody extremely wealthy yet somehow (morally) skint!

We shouldn’t kid ourselves. If Rangers and (particularly) Celtic were in the Premier League they’d be big - and their global appeal would expand significantly (hence, social media followings are not really an indication of much: plastic Chinese or American fans are not monitoring Scottish football but follow the Prem).

But it’s all irrelevant. They’re not in the Prem and won’t be. So fuck em.

Besides, we have more soul than any of them.

Eerie Descent 12:36 Fri Dec 15
Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
I don't think they do have a bigger worldwide fanbase than us.

Also, if a player has a choice of joining them or us, 99% of the time the player is joining us. In fact, players are more likely to join Bournemouth than them, and they've got about 10,000 fans.

Winning domestic trophies in that league isn't an indicator of anything, they're up against teams like Livingstone & Ross County ffs

Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
A reasonable way to judge a club's global standing in the MODERN era is look at their social media followings - Rangers have less than 800k on X, West Ham have 2.7m, Rangers 960k on Facebook, West Ham have 4m

Not exactly scientific but a pretty good indicator who the bigger club is

swindon hammer 12:20 Fri Dec 15
Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
Yeah Rangers are probably bigger than us in terms of fan base.

Them and Celtic are massive clubs. It’s just the league they are in that prevents them from being bigger in terms of competing with the big clubs in Europe.

Don’t want either of them in the EPL though.

Keep that Sectarian/Religious bullshit in Scotland where it belongs.

Fauxstralian - I'm sure the irony in your post was intentional :-)

Joe Royal - yes I googled it I did think Rangers were top, I was surprised by the Egyptian team

Celtic have obviously dropped off replacing Postecoglou with the inferior Rodgers who doesnt seem to get the same out of them.
Happy to see the pair fester away in their mediocre cesspit of a league
Same should happen to the Welsh teams .... go and play in a Welsh league

I wonder if Rodgers will come back for another foray in the EPL?

2 points behind Celtic, if they win their game in hand.

I wouldn't call that comfortable for Celtic.

Fauxstralian 10:51 Fri Dec 15
Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
Not sure if they've won any cups but this Rangers has one League title and are comfortably second in a two horse League.

Willtell 10:20 Fri Dec 15
Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
West Ham's annual turnover is over £250m and Rangers is £83m. WH's TV income was around twice what Rangers total annual income for the year was.

They and Celtic are big fish in a small pond and should really be in a UK PL. But then Scotland would lose a little of it's identity but be massive clubs again...

southbankbornnbred 9:59 Fri Dec 15
Re: Is Rangers a bigger club than West Ham?
Celtic and Rangers are huge clubs in a tiny, almost waterless, pond.

And that stops them growing any further.

Not that it will happen, so it’s purely theoretical, but if they joined the Premier League, both would likely become big players - Liverpool/Arsenal sized clubs: that sort of revenue. Their domestic, and latent global, support would bring them in a lot of money.

But they are severely limited by Scottish football. Their current sponsorship/commercial revenues are child’s play in the Premier league.

Fraser, you sure? Thought Bocca Juniors was the best club in the world going on leagues/trophies won.

Rangers have the second most trophies in world football after an Egyptian club.
